Preventing Identity Theft
Michael J. Durnack, An Expert on Identity Theft Prevention and Education offers his expertise on the subject. Folloiwng are press release excerpts.
Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) August 22, 2007 — As the summer of 2007 comes to a close, thousands of students all over the United States are preparing to leave for college, many for their first time. Parents of these students have been preparing them for this big step, in many ways, from the time they taught their children to look both ways before crossing the street. But have they taught these young adults how important it is to keep their personal information safe? Have they taught them the many ways in which an identity thief, who may be living in their dorm, can take this information and use it in ways that can wreak havoc on a credit report, banking accounts and credit card accounts, to name just a few?
Michael J. Durnack, identity theft expert and President and CEO of Identity Defense says that it is of vital importance that you teach your children to guard their personal information and be aware of the simple but effective ways criminals can obtain this information to use in a fraudulent manner. Durnack said, “Young people can be especially susceptible to this kind of crime. They are very trusting and have that ‘it will never happen to me’ attitude that leaves them extremely susceptible to identity theft.” He goes on to say, “Parents need to teach their college bound children how to properly safeguard this information. Many times the parents need to learn these methods for themselves as well. These are important lessons for everyone to learn and apply to anyone.”

The Department of Treasury Releases Audit Report on Internal Revenue Service Employees
Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) August 11, 2007 — Michael Durnack, identity theft expert and President and CEO of Identity Defense (www.identitydefense.com), says recent study of IRS employees shows consumers’ susceptibility to social engineering.
Last week, The Department of the Treasury released the results of their review to evaluate the vulnerability of IRS employees to ’social engineering’ attempts that could be used by potential identity thieves to access the IRS’s computer system. The result of this study showed 60% of IRS employees did not comply with computer security practices put into place to protect their passwords. Computer hackers could use this information to access the IRS computer system and the personal information of millions of American taxpayers……
Hollywood Superstars are Targeted by Identity Thieves
With identity theft on the rise, consumers are forced to take the matter into their own hands. Identity Defense has created a proprietary ID risk assessment that categorizes the threat level of an individual’s risk to identity theft.
Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) August 9, 2007 — Authorities announced earlier this week that a major identity theft ring was busted in northeast Philadelphia. While the average consumer has become almost immune to these stories, the irony of this story caught everyone by surprise. The list of targeted victims included superstars like Paris Hilton, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez and Donovan McNabb. Thieves are getting smarter with their tactics which requires consumers to become armed with the education and information to defend them against this crime.
Michael Durnack, identity defense expert and president and CEO of Identity Defense, said, “This crime is one of the most violating crimes imaginable. The victim is stripped of their most personal information and left to clean up the mess.” Durnack goes on to say, “It’s a crime that the average consumer can defend themselves from with a few, simple steps.”
